Simply Lovely

Here are two sessions I've done recently at the new studio.  Each of them beautiful women.  Each had excuses for not doing something like this.  Does this sound familiar:

"I need to lose some weight."

"I never get in front of the camera!"

"I need portraits of my kids, not me."

"My last portrait was my high school senior portrait."

"I'm not what I used to be!"

No you're not.  You're more than you've ever been.  Wife, mother, daughter, sister, a woman with a career.  You have many hats.  You are pulled in many directions.  But you are lovely.  Don't think so?  Don't listen to that aweful voice in your head.  Listen to your loved ones, your friends. You are younger than you'll ever be.  You have a story, and a beauty that shines within.

Gorgeous, isn't she?  One of the most beautiful women I know, inside and out!  Valarie is a wonderful wife and mother, an talented English teacher, and an awesome spiritual warrior.

Mitzi is a talented speech pathologist, wife, and the mother of two gorgeous daughters, one of which just named 1st runner-up in Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen 2014 pageant.  As a mother of a much-photographed daughter, she was uncomfortable with the idea of being in front of the camera.  But we wound up having a blast, and she looks amazing!

Both of these women are courageous as well...they let me take "before" images!  Still beautiful...

Music to My Ears

If you follow my posts, you'll find that I love to photograph a variety of things.  Musicians are high on my list.  I love music.  Really. Love. Music.  I never really had a choice but to love it.  My parents named me Amanda Lynn, and for my 8th birthday put a mandolin in my hands.  Some of my earliest memories are of lying on a blanket under the stars at summer bluegrass festivals, in a wooded amphitheather listening to the thump of an upright bass and the bright notes of mandolins and banjos, guitars and harmonicas.

Today my playlist is as eclectic as a playlist can be - I even have Bruno Mars and Adele so that my teenage daughter doesn't roll her eyes when I plug my phone into the house speakers.  But nothing sounds better than acoustic music, which brings me to this guy...

Last night I photographed Oklahoma native John Fullbright, as he was awarded the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame's Rising Star award in a ceremony followed by an amazing concert.  Here is the story in the Phoenix, although you may not be able to read it if you're not a subscriber

I'm never surprised, but continually impressed by the musical talent to come out of Oklahoma.  If you love a great singer-songwriter and have ANY kind of an affinity for folk, you've got to listen to this Grammy-nominated guy.  His lyrics belie his age (26).  You can find him here and read why the Wall Streat Journal considered him as one of the 10 best live performances of the year.

I'll be getting his new album "Songs"

New Beginnings

The best is yet to come.

Recently I've heard from a few clients that were having a difficult time locating me, and for good reason.  I've moved to a new location!  This is an exciting new chapter, and I'm happy to be sharing it with you.  I've moved to Studio 105 at 105 W. Broadway, and will be meeting clients and conducting studio sessions in this beautiful space!  So feel free to contact me and stop by for a visit.

Recently, I had my first chance to try out the studio while photographing two of the area's finest high school athletes for the Muskogee Phoenix Female and Male Athletes of the Year.  I had been privileged to photograph this talented lady, Leslie, for her senior portraits last Fall, and wasn't at all surprised that she gleaned the top honor.  Here is her story -

Female Athlete of the Year

Here are a few  images from her beautiful senior session...

Then there is Chandler, the Male Athlete of the Year.  He is just one guy, not twins!  I photographed him in both his football gear and golf getup, since his recognition was a result of his involvement in both sports.  If you want to find out how impressive this guy is, then here is his story -

And finally, a familiar face around Muskogee, John Hasler, stopped in while I was photographing these two athletes to watch the process, and got to sit for a portrait as well.  John owns John Hasler Productions and provides audio/video services to Muskogee and surrounding areas.  Some might recognize John as a former news reporter for Tulsa's Channel 8 KTUL.

That's all for now.  I love my new space!  Come by and check it out...
